5 considerations for choosing the right goggles for yourself:
1. Fact - specifications and usage conditions of the laser.
Please refer to the manufacturer's guide for the requirements of your laser glasses.
Calculate OD and power density requirements based on wavelength, power watts (or pulse system, using wavelength, power joules, pulse length seconds, and pulse repetition rate hertz), using laser safety software such as Lazan, LaserSafePC, Easy Haz or LIA laser hazard assessment software.
consider:
Is there an engineering control to limit exposure to light beams?
Do we need the visibility of some beams to calibrate the visible beams?
Do we need protection for beam irradiation?
Or is it mainly to protect against diffuse or scattered energy?
For medical applications, are there different glasses considerations for clinical doctors and patients (such as VLT visible light transmittance, full orbital coverage, glasses weight)?
Will filter color/color restoration affect usage?
Are there multiple laser systems in this area, or is the glasses designated as one system?
Consult laser safety glasses manufacturing.
2. Filter - OD, damage threshold, and visible light transmittance (VLT) requirements.
Ensure that the filter reduces potential energy exposure to below the maximum allowable exposure (MPE).
Check the visible light transmittance (VLT) of the filter. VLT is the percentage of visible light transmitted through a filter, calculated based on the spectral sensitivity of the human eye to sunlight. The higher the better. Less than 20% of VLTs should be used in well lit working environments.
Consider absorption filters or interference filters - absorption filters may be polymer+dye based or glass, whose function is to absorb laser energy. The interference filter is protected by a thin layer of reflective material. Hybrid vehicles combine these two technologies.
Lightweight polymer filters have different VLTs and moderate damage thresholds for ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared light, with a lower damage threshold for infrared light.
Polymer filters are cost-effective, easy to wear, and provide the highest impact resistance, while heavy glass filters can provide higher video lottery terminals and higher damage thresholds at a higher cost,
The medium coating and hybrid vehicles provide the highest video lottery terminal, with the highest damage threshold (in some energy sources, it is not absorbed but reflected), and at the highest cost.
3. Framework - Style and dressing style.
Rule 1: If wearing glasses is uncomfortable, the user may not wear them.
Rule 2: The law of vanity, even in the laboratory, is no exception. Users can wear whatever they like.
Many frames are designed for wearing prescription glasses. Some are universal and suitable for people who wear glasses and those who don't.
Ensure that the selected frame is end formed, fits well, and has no gaps. The model with side panels increases the surrounding light, reduces visual obstacles, and minimizes non beam hazards when entering the door.
Polymer filters can be used in the widest range of frameworks, often with the widest field of view and full angle coverage.
4. Adaptability, comfort, vanity.
Rule 1: If the goggles are not suitable, the user will not wear them.
Rule 2: Users will not wear clothes that do not fit or are disliked.
5. Factors - Additional considerations.
Eye protection is only effective when in use - it's useless to put it on a shelf.
If the goggles are too heavy, unsuitable, poorly designed, or have a low VLT, users will make the wrong choice: not to wear them.
Risk assessment must be a part of the equation, using engineering controls to reduce risks.
Filtering technology data, including batch data, absorption characteristics, test reports, CE certificates, and consistency documents, should be provided upon request or online.
